Tarragon origin
Tarragon is native to Southern Russia and Western Asia though today, France is the main producer. Two main species are used, Russian and French.
The name is derived from the Latin word for “little dragon”. The name comes from the shape of the herb’s roots. But it is also believed that tarragon can cure the bites and stings of venomous beasts.
What is tarragon good for
Like many herbs, tarragon has an interesting ratio of nutrients while offering few calories and carbs. But tarragon is also believed to help decreasing the level of blood sugar. Other presumed health benefits include improving and regulating sleep, and increasing appetite.
Tarragon uses in cooking
Tarragon is commonly used as a flavour in vinegar, pickles, mustard and all sorts of sauces and seasonings. It pairs well with fish, beef and chicken, and can also be added to egg and cheese dishes.
