Ginger has been primarily used for its medicinal properties. for example, ginger tea is known to have a positive and calming effect on nausea, and can be used to aid digestion. Gingerol, which is the main bioactive compound in ginger, is recognized for its powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.
But ginger has also become a very common ingredient in recipes nowadays. It can be used fresh, dried or powdered. Ginger is one of the main ingredients in curry mixes. In Japan, pickled ginger is a familiar accompaniment to sushi. Preserved ginger is a confectionery, preserved in a sweet and salty mixture and often added to desserts.
