Origin of mango
Mangoes have been cultivated by men for more than 4000 years. Native to India, mangoes have spread over almost all the topical areas. Today the world’s largest producers are India, China and Thailand.
As it is consumed worldwide, there are many different way to use it or to cook it. For example, In India, a basket of mangoes is considered a gesture of friendship. In Japan, mangoes are often used as stuffing in mochi, a famous dessert made with glutinous rice flour. In Mexico, mango and avocado ceviche is a must-have when meeting with some friends over a drink.
Different types of mango
There are over 300 different types of mango all over the world. They all have different skin colours, different shapes, different textures and different flavours. But only about 30 of them are consumed on a global scale.
Popular mango varieties include Alphonso, the king of mangoes native to India, incredibly sweet and juicy; sweet and tangy Keitt mangoes grown in Florida; creamy and aromatic Sein Ta Lone, grown in Myanmar; peachy and firm fleshed Honey mangoes found in Mexico and Brazil.
