Discover our blackcurrant flavour
Description
Blackcurrants are dark purple berries growing in mid-summer and rich in vitamin C. The berries grow in clusters on broad bushes and they are native to Europe and Asia.
Due to their tart flavour, blackcurrants are rarely consumed uncooked. Rather, they can be made into pies, jams, cordials, liqueurs and ice creams.
Blackcurrant vs blueberry
Blackcurrants have a dark purple colour and a shiny skin, whereas blueberries have a lighter, bluer colour and their skin are not as glossy. Blueberries also tend to me slightly larger than blackcurrants. Nutrients-wise, blackcurrants have higher levels of vitamin C and vitamin A, while blueberries are higher in vitamins B12, K and E.
